Trevor Noah on Philando Castile footage: ‘It broke me’

The “Daily Show” detoured from comedy on Wednesday, as Trevor Noah talked frankly and emotionally about the released dashcam footage in which a Minnesota man was killed by police last year during a traffic stop.

“It broke me,” Noah said, saying he was moved by the final part of the footage showing the death of Philando Castile. In that part of the video, the 4-year-old daughter of Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, is whisked away from the car after witnessing the shooting.

Noah had addressed the verdict on Monday’s show, Slate reported. Jeronimo Yanez, the Minnesota police officer who fatally shot Castile, was found not guilty of second degree manslaughter Friday.

“‘You shot four bullets into him, sir.” It’s ... mindblowing that Diamond Reynolds has just seen her boyfriend shot in front of her — she still has the presence of mind to be deferential to the policeman. In that moment, the cop has panicked, but clearly black people never forget their training,” Noah said. “Still in that moment the black person is saying sir. “‘I respect you, sir. I understand what I need to do, sir.’” The same thing Philando Castile did.”

Ellen DeGeneres calls out audience member for dishonesty

Ellen DeGeneres tested the honesty of her audience in a recent show, and most of them passed. The one woman who didn’t was embarrassed with a reprimand on national television.

With “Ellen” in its 14th season, DeGeneres gave her audience members the chance to choose one item from the Ellen Shop, the Huffington Post reported. What the audience didn’t know was that DeGeneres had hidden cameras trained on the table, filming the shoppers as they chose between hats, mugs and other trinkets. A sign at the table reminded the shoppers that they were limited to one free item.

“I just wanted to see how honest my audience was,” DeGeneres said during the show’s segment.

Most of the guests chose one item and one woman offered to pay for a second item, the Huffington Post reported. But a woman named Nancy failed the test.

DeGeneres played back the video to the audience and called out Nancy for taking more than one item. DeGeneres then had the embarrassed woman placed in a special chair on stage and lectured her about the importance of honesty.

It was awkward, but it’s a safe bet that Nancy learned her lesson.

Lorde confirmed her secret double life on Thursday night’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Entertainment Weekly reported. Last week, the New Zealand publication Newshub revealed that the Instagram account @onionringsworldwide may have been operated by Lorde.

Lorde was appearing on the show to sing and promote her new album, “Melodrama.” Asked by Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, Lorde confessed about the onion rings, explaining she did not know her side job would become public.

“I have to explain for a second. Here’s the thing; I sort of naively didn’t realize it would be ‘a thing’ that I was going to different places and trying the onion rings at each of those places,” Lorde said. “It’s me, it’s me.”

Lorde said she stopped reviewing onion rings via Instagram, Entertainment Weekly reported. “It was fun for five seconds,” she said. But she has no plans to exclude the rings from her diet.

“I’m still going to keep eating onion rings because they’re my favorite,” she said.

“You sent us a photo and it’s the most insane thing I’ve ever seen,” host Jimmy Fallon said before holding up a picture of Moore missing a front tooth. “How did this happen?”

“I sheared off my front teeth,” Moore explained. “I’d love to say it was skateboarding or something really kind of cool, but I think it’s really something that’s important to share, because I think it’s literally, probably after heart disease, one of the biggest killers in in America, which is stress. Stress sheared off my front teeth. But, in an effort to get ready for you, I wanted to make sure my teeth were in.”

Although the photo featured Moore missing just one front tooth, the actress made it clear that she’s actually missing both of them. She went on to explain that her children “love” seeing her toothless.

“They love seeing me without my teeth,” she said, “because they think it makes me look more vulnerable and more human.”

In 2010, Moore shared that one of her front teeth had fallen out, but the second one finally followed more recently after she “literally knocked it out.”

“It was almost like it fell out and my warranty was up. I swear!” she said. “Thank God for modern dentistry. All of you who go out and practice modern dentistry—thank God!”

Lohan’s new hairstyle is for her upcoming role on the new show, “Sick Note” according to US Weekly. Though it’s unlikely that Lohan took a pair of shears to her own head, fans are still digging the new look, even if it is just a wig.

“Your hair is so beautiful @lindsaylohan,” one follower wrote.

Another fan added, “Ur hair looks so good!”

In the upcoming U.K. show, Lohan will play Grint’s boss’s daughter. The show is set to air in the fall in the U.K., and Lohan will make her debut next year.

JPMorgan Chase pulls ads as Megyn Kelly's Alex Jones interview sparks controversy

The largest bank in the nation has reportedly yanked its ads from all NBC News broadcasts on a temporary basis amid an uproar over host Megyn Kelly’s upcoming interview with controversial Austin, Texas-based radio host Alex Jones, according to published reports.

The Hollywood Reporter and other news outlets reported Monday evening that JPMorgan Chase & Co. had advised NBC it was pulling all scheduled on-air and digital ads until after Kelly’s interview with Jones airs.

The banking giant reportedly wants to ensure its ads don’t air adjacent to promos for the Father’s Day interview with Jones, who has previously claimed that the attack at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, that left more than two dozen students and staff dead was a made-up news event. The interview was the subject of considerable anger on social media Monday after Kelly heavily promoted it during her Sunday night news show.

Kristin Lemkau, the chief marketing officer for Chase, tweeted Monday that she was “repulsed” that Jones was getting airtime on NBC.

Chase is, thus far, the only business to publicly announce plans to pull ads from Kelly’s show and other NBC News broadcasts.

Jones has made Austin headlines several times in recent weeks. He was sued by Greek yogurt manufacturer Chobani, a case that was later settled. And Jones fought his ex-wife for custody of their children.

Adam West's TV sidekick, Burt Ward, shares heartbreaking reaction to his co-star's death

“I am devastated at the loss of one my very dearest friends,” Ward said in a statement, according to Variety. “Adam and I had a special friendship for more than 50 years. We shared some of the most fun times of our lives together. Our families have deep love and respect for each other. This is a terribly unexpected loss of my lifelong friend. I will forever miss him. There are several fine actors who have portrayed Batman in films. In my eyes, there was only one real Batman; that is and always will be Adam West. He was truly the Bright Knight.”

The close friends reportedly last saw each other two weeks ago when they traveled to an autograph signing on the East Coast together. After a friendship that lasted half a century, it’s no surprise that Ward is heartbroken by the loss.
